In September 1978 a small group of women celebrated the opening of Mundaring Sharing in the “Old School Master’s House” in the grounds of the original Mundaring School, located in Nichol Street and now demolished.
As membership grew, new premises were found at a house in Jacoby Street, Mundaring
In 1988 Mundaring Sharing moved to its
current home, Craigie House. During the first few years at Craigie
House the Crèche was housed in a small, one room cottage, next to
where the Art Shed is currently located. In the early 1990’s
a five year plan was drawn up. The plan included
demolishing the old crèche to be replaced by what is now the Little
Possums Centre. A sub-committee was formed, which, after negotiating
with Shire of Mundaring, agreed to include an occasional care
facility in exchange for a $50,000 grant. Lotteries Commission (as
it was known then) equalled this amount. The “House” then
contributed the shortfall of $25,000. Volunteers put in the lawn,
gardens, reticulation and sandpit. The building opened in
November 1995.
Membership was on the increase, prompting the demand for extra class
space. It was agreed a “Wet Area” was needed. The problem was, where
to put it? With the old crèche gone, it was decided there was just
enough room for it there. A long and hard battle to get planning
permission followed, and with a lot persistence and perseverance the
building was completed in 2002.
2008 saw us celebrate 30 years of learning and sharing. Many events were held throughout the year including an open week, garden party, painting of a mural, unveiling of a mosaic commemorative bird bath.
